Zig-zagging the real jobs, & signs of spring

Do you ever have days like me, where you know you really, really want to get something done, even have a deadline, and you get side tracked with another project or task that is simply "more desireable" than the one you really need to get done?!

Today was just that for me........I woke up, made a medley of breakfasts, and lunches...got the school kids out the door and off to school, and opened the front door to see this glorious rainbow! So sparkly, so pristine, so inspiring and so promising!



Today was just one of those dodge the drudgery days.....I sewed! I finised up some skirts for the girls (still have the waistband on mine to take in) ...... hung the girls skirts up in the closet, ironed, finished, CHECK!
Started this zig zag quilt yesterday.....and did a bit more on it today....I call it my zig zagging the real work, quilt. Not sure if it will become a queen sized quilt to compete with the other beauties I have, or will it be a fun lap quilt?! Hmmm....we'll see which way it goes! None the less, it sure has been a fun distraction.



Took a peek at these wee little babies..........my husband has taken a new found love to his veggie seedlings....looking forward to planting a spring garden!

Made a fantastic batch of Gluten free chocolate chip cookies, with Agave Nectar instead of sugar! The best of both worlds! Recipe to follow.........



Just one of THOSE DAYS! Unexpected creativity, just the way we like it, right!

Cham-bray anyone?

Chambray denim for spring!



Been busy making poofy skirts for the ladies in this house. One for the Momma bear, and two baby bears......



with some cute lace and vintage braid detailing......



and of course some poofy eyelet petticoats peeking out.....make for fun twirling.



Momma bear loves these wild flowers on her new sweater that Pappa bear got her for Valentines Day! The tucks on the Momma bear waistband skirt, were not so easy! Once I figured them out, it was a cinch......if you want to make a tucked waistband, here is the trick............take a long and wide piece of fabric and set and sew the tucks first, then cut out the waistband AFTER the tucks are sewn in place. It took me a few try's to figure this out!



Now, we just need a sunny day to dry the damp grassy hillsides out, and we're off to take photos in our match-y skirts!

I am making a cute skirt for myself and my girlies and it would go perfectly with my skirt! My skirt looks much like this one.....I drew inspiration from this skirt, and am making a cute one, for a prettier price tag!
I found the prettiest sweater here, that will go great with my new skirt....i found red and white striped tops for the girls! I am dreaming of a photo or two in the rolling green hills with yellow mustard in bloom......once the rains let up!

I've been looking through rose colored glasses as of late! Seeing red, everywhere I turn. Must be February.



I thoroughly enjoyed watching these beauties bloom and bob their fancy heads, all week.

Crazy fun skirt

Okay, I'm finally getting this skirt blogged.......I made it way back when......saw a fun inspiration on my friend Nathalie's blog.......at first it was an elastic waisted skirt....but just didn't suit me, so I added a zipper to made it more fitted.......I didn't use a pattern!



It is so bright and funky. I have yet to get my guts up to wear it out and about! What is it about me sewing for myself?! I have better luck making cute kids clothing...maybe because their size and shape is more forgiving? I dunno~

Birdies on my branches

I got so inspired by the cute birdies over at Purlbee ......... I had to have a have a few, too~



I actually made them up at Christmas time, but didn't have enough to fill a little tree.



A light bulb went on and I said: Aha! I can cut some wintry branches and perch them here. Just in time for Valentines Day, and the glorious prelude to Springtime we've been experiencing.

Birthday bag and spring dresses

We're feeling like Spring around here! Honest to goodness we are experiencing June weather, in January! (with the exception of night time temperatures) The trees are budding out, and everything is starting to bloom. We sure need more rain! California is headed for drought no doubt. We are enjoying you, Mr. Sunshine, but desperately need to see and feel more of Mr. Rain.



Busting out the gorgeous Springtime prints, like these.



My daughter helped make the bag (for a friend) and we put lots of built in pockets and pencil slots inside. She filled it with fun little pens, lip gloss, notepad, etc....a fun little birthday bag for a girlie friend.

And the dress....yes, the dress. I have to say that it was laying on my studio work table, and Missy took it and put it on yesterday. It's not quite finished, but she insisted on wearing it anyhow. It will be even cuter!

Better go pull some weeds and prune the rosebushes before they start blooming!
